Automatic login

Our client, a leading global law firm, runs a heavily customised, Documentum centric application for Matter Management. It was decided that it would be desirable to include users of this application within the “Single sign-on” regime operated by our client, using eTrust SiteMinder from Computer Associates to authenticate web clients against the Windows Active Directory. Due to our clients high security needs it was found necessary to apply authentication checks at both the Web Server and Documentum Server application levels and this required a Proof of Concept to be run which Aptus were tasked with developing.

Our client required Named User access at the Documentum applications server, which meant that we had to develop an enhanced Plug-in to enable Documentum to authenticate users against SiteMinder. The Plug-in was developed and extensively tested over a period of four months and has now been implemented in our client’s production environment. Any user who is successfully logged in at their desktop and who is allowed access to the Documentum application is passed through to the Matter Management application without any further login action being required. In addition to tighter security the benefit is in ease of use for end users who had often forgotten their Documentum login details and as a consequence, had to request help from Systems Administrators.
